Presidial Lancers fought in all the battles of the Mexican War both in Mexico and California and were among the forces besieging the Alamo. Their job included, Indian fighting, and military police work as well as scouting and combat duty during war time. Their uniform, consisted of a black, flat top, broad brimmed, hat, indigo blue coat with red turnbacks cuffs and collars, gray overalls buttoned up the side with silver colored buttons, and boots with large rowel spurs.
